Cavaliers split pair of SCC matches
The Carlinville High School boys’ soccer team closed out their regular season with South Central Conference matches against East Alton-Wood River and Marquette Catholic.
The Cavaliers hosted the Oilers in a rescheduled SCC match Friday, Oct. 9. East Alton-Wood River has struggled the entire year with low numbers and inexperience. However, the cold weather, wind, and extremely wet field helped level the playing field for much of the opening half. Carlinville held an overwhelming advantage in shots throughout the entire game, but the Cavies were unlucky throughout the entire first 35 minutes. Several shots hit the crossbar or were shot too high or too wide. Eric Trump scored the game’s first goal in the 35th minute. Despite a huge advantage in every statistical category, the halftime lead was only 1-0.
